Vocab.Party — Parental consent (v1.0)
Version 1.0 · In effect from 8 May 2026.
This is the consent you give when you create a child account on Vocab.Party. It is shown in full at child-creation, and this page is its permanent public copy.
By creating this child account, you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian, and you give your permission for Alt Shift Lab Ltd to process your child's data through Vocab.Party.
Specifically, you understand that:
- Your child will sign in with the username and password you choose for them. Their display name, learning progress, and the messages they send to friends in the game will be stored in our database to make the game work. We don't collect their real name, age, address, school, or any biometric data.
- Their paraphrases are sent to Anthropic's AI (Claude Haiku) to be judged for quality and to receive hints. We never send your child's name or any identifier — only the word, its definition, and what your child typed. Anthropic doesn't use this data to train their models.
- The game uses cookieless, privacy-respecting analytics (PostHog, EU). No name, email, or username ever reaches PostHog — only an internal numeric id and event names. We use this data to assess how well the different games perform and to improve the app.
- Your child can receive notifications from friends if they explicitly opt in by installing the web app and accepting the browser's notification prompt. Notifications are silenced between 21:00 and 07:00 in their local timezone.
- Friendships in the game require both parents to confirm — your child cannot message anyone you haven't approved.
- You can ask us at any time to see what we hold on your child, correct anything, or delete the account entirely, by emailing hello@altshiftlab.com. We respond within a week, at most a month.
- The full privacy notice (sub-processor list, your rights under UK GDPR, retention periods) is at vocab.party/privacy.
A practical ask, separate from the legal stuff: the password you set for your child is yours and your child's together — please don't share it with the friend group. It lets them be your child in the game, and we'd rather they couldn't.
☐ I am this child's parent or legal guardian, and I consent to the processing described above.
If this consent changes materially, the version number advances and you'll be asked to accept the new version before continuing.
